The images I selected for double exposure were the picture of Kara with flowers wrapped around her face and the picture of the old fashion camera. The objects relate compositionally because they are both in black and white and the camera is supposed to portray the images in a person’s brain. It shows the memories people have. People take mental pictures just like cameras capture photos and memories. I merged the layers so that the camera structure matches and lines up with the structure of Kara’s face. The photo merged together makes Kara look like a skeleton because of the camera and the flowers around her face remind me of a picture from Mexico when they celebrate the day of the dead.
The subject for my photo essay is a day in Providence. I went to the Providence place mall and took pictures from the windows at the Nordstrom Café and then I went to a desert place called Pastiche and took photos there as well. I selected this place because I spend a lot of my time in Providence especially the mall. I also love the design of the mall and the shapes of little things in the design of the mall. I am trying to portray the concept that small things that people normally don’t notice are what make a place so interesting and visually appealing. Visually, the pictures capture a narrative through showing different areas in the mall and also food I ate that day. I arranged my pictures in a random order because they are all very different so it didn’t need a particular sequence. To make the pictures all connect I put them all in black and white to dramatize the photos and make them look unified.
