Line and Shape
Line and Shape Reflection
In the first photo I took, I was at a concert at Umass Lowell and i really liked the backdrop and position of the singer during one of his songs so i decided to take a few pictures. I wasn't too far away from the stage and I was looking at the stage from an angle as well. I was looking at the stage straight on from my seat and the artist was sitting on a platform in the photo. Also the photo was originally in black and white which I found interesting because the effect the singer chose for his concert was black and white so I didn't have to convert the photo into black and white. I photographed the picture vertically and the backdrop created a rule of thirds for me while i was taking the picture because columns helped break up the backdrop on the stage. The backdrop gave the effect of a stained glass window and the artist was sitting on a platform in front of it which I found extremely interesting and creative. I feel that the main focal point in the image is the person because he is the darkest point of the photo which i did purposefully and I cropped the image to make the eyes not focus right on the center of the image rather to focus on the corner first to take all the attention off the complex background.
Pattern and Texture
My best photo is the photo of the berries on leaves. I was close to the berries when I took the picture because the main focus of the picture is the berries. My point of view is straight on and the plant was at eye level. The photo was taken vertical but I cropped the photo to be horizontal. I used the rule of thirds to crop the photo and make the berries the main point to look at and I placed it in the top right corner to draw the attention to the corner rather than the center. This photo is an example of pattern because the leaves form a pattern and they also show the texture on the leaves and of the berries. The photo that may be over exposed is the picture of the garden tool because it is a very light picture due to the lighting of the picture. The picture of the stairs and the water is a little underexposed because the area near the stairs is very dark because of the angle that the picture was taken at. Finally, I feel that the picture of the berries is the most properly exposed because it correctly shows the pattern and texture in the picture without being too light or too dark.
Motion
I took pictures of a stainless steel spinner, which looked like a kitchen utensil. I used the shutter speed 1/1000 to freeze the action of the spinning object. I used fluorescent setting to take the picture. The ISO I used was 200 because it was bright and sunny outside. I froze the action of the tool spinning to make it look like it stopped spinning. I took the photo from the side of the spinner and I was only about a foot away from the object. The blurred background makes the photo stronger because it brings a focus to the spinner and I also changed the picture from color to black and white to make the photo more dramatic.
I took a picture of an umbrella using a slow shutter speed of 1/80. I used fluorescent white balance because I took the picture inside the school but there was also lots of sunlight coming into the room. The ISO i used was 400. The lines in the umbrella blurred together and the colors started to blend. I took the photo head on and about 6 feet away from the umbrella. I kept the photo in color because it strengthened the photo since the colors were vibrant. I also enhanced the colors and the background originally had a green tint so I changed the background color so it wasn’t as green which ultimately enhanced the colors of the umbrella.
